Shakespearian Context
Shakespeare's play Macbeth was written during the reign of King James I (after Elizabeth the first) 1567-1625. In Shakespeare's time witchcraft was feared and hated. Anyone convicted of using or being associated with witchcraft was eliminated, by being burned at the stake. When Witches appeared on stage during production, this would've alarmed and distressed the audience.
Macbeth with the courage boost from Lady Macbeth, he commits the ultimate crime, the killing of a king. We may not think like this now but the King is God's appointed man, killing him would cause alarm and chaos as they ruins the natural order of life. With the king out of the picture their will be a fight for the crown, leading to a *civil war.
*Civil War - A war fought within a country against their own people
